We all need a perfect salsa with our nachos. That’s when I discovered Bobby Flay’s Salsa recipe, which turned out to be the perfect pairing for my homemade nachos.

I am glad that I came across this recipe. Even though I don’t make nachos often, this salsa dip has become a staple in my kitchen. That’s because it goes well with everything.
Apart from having it with my nachos, I like to use it as topping for pizzas or as a spread for my sandwiches and wraps, as this recipe makes use of Mexican chili peppers that adds a spicy and zesty taste and elevates the flavor of the dish instantly.
So, let us now dig into this simple Bobby Flay Salsa recipe that can be prepared in no time.
Equipments Required
- Saucepan: I use a saucepan to sauté all the vegetables.
- Small Bowls: I always use small bowls to prepare the required amount of ingredients for a recipe.
- Knife: A sharp knife helps you chop the vegetables properly.
- Chopping Board: I generally use a wooden chopping board to chop the vegetables. However, you can also use a plastic chopping board as per your convenience.
- Blending Jar: I use a small blending jar to blend all the vegetables together. However, you can also use a food processor for the same.
- Serving Bowl: You will need a serving bowl to serve the salsa.
Bobby Flay Salsa Ingredients & Substitutions
Note: The ingredients mentioned in this recipe will help you make salsa for 4 servings.
- 2 Tablespoons Canola Oil (plus more for brushing tomatoes): You can also use vegetable oil or olive oil.
- 2 Serrano Chillies: If you don’t find Serrano chilies, you can use jalapenos instead. They are milder than Serranos but pack a punch of flavors.
- 1 Small Red Onion (coarsely chopped): White or yellow onions also taste good in salsa.
- 4 Cloves Garlic (peeled and roughly chopped)
- 6 Plum Tomatoes (halved and seeded): You can also opt for Roma tomatoes, which make a great substitute.
- Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper
- 2 limes, Juiced: I sometimes also replace lime juice with white vinegar or red wine vinegar.
- ¼ Cup Chopped Fresh Cilantro Leaves: Parsley, Mexican oregano, or Thai basil can also be used in the salsa.

Expert Tips That I Recommend
- I always measure the lemon juice correctly, as the proportion of lemon to that of the tomatoes should be 4:1 to hit the right note of citrusy flavor in the salsa.
- I usually prefer indulging in the prepared salsa after an hour or so, as giving it some rest allows the flavors to meld.
- You can also consider adding smoked paprika or chipotle powder to your salsa to create a more complex flavor profile.
- I usually don’t like blending my salsa too much, as I enjoy a crunchy texture. Therefore, at times, I simply chop the tomatoes and mix the ingredients.
- I add cilantro, thyme, rosemary, basil, and parsley to my salsa to add a fresh taste.
