Why Bother Freezing Peaches?
Freezing peaches has a lot of advantages, and one of them is that I LOVE THEM. These in-season fruits are not available throughout the year, and the available ones are not organically produced.
So, freezing gives you the chance to skip the bland supermarket versions and keep the juicy goodness locked in for later. Bonus, we are not adding sugar, so you are in for some real peachy flavors.
Hence, my undying love for peaches makes me freeze them so that I can enjoy them in my smoothies and cobblers. After all, it only requires three steps, so why don’t you do it?
Your No-Mess Guide to Freezing Peaches Like A Pro
Remove The Skin
Removing the skin of the peaches can be quite tricky if you are inexperienced with it.
I do it by boiling my peaches and then giving them an ice bath. Using this simple principle of physics, I peel the peaches in 2 minutes rather than 10.
Cut Them In Pieces
I like to make my job easier today to enjoy a hassle-free tomorrow. So after peeling the peaches, I like to cut them into slices.
You can also be playful with it and cut it into any irregular shape you want. Since I use it for my smoothies, I slice it into small chunks. If not, you can also freeze them without cutting.
Toss Them In Lemon Juice
Many call this step extra, but I find it to be mandatory. I toss the sliced pieces of peaches in lemon juice. Why? Well, tossing them into lemon juice keeps them intact texture wise and taste wise. Also, lemon juice prevents the peaches from losing their beautiful shade of orange. I have tried skipping this step, and I can tell you that the results were not that promising.
Let’s Get Them Frozen (No Disney songs, promise)
For the last step, I add my peaches in a ziplock bag and freeze them for 3-6 months. Pro tip: Make sure that your ziplock is tightly sealed to prevent air from leaking in.
